The old brandy snifter has gone out of fashion. In 1988, Hennessy's chief taster Yann Filllioux worked together with Georg Riedel on a brandy glass. During a blind tasting of numerous glass shapes, the traditional snifters of different sizes were left behind. It turned out that the so popular balloon glasses have too large an evaporation surface and overemphasize the alcohol and its sharpness.
This does not surprise me at all, says Yann Fillioux, at Hennessy we have been using a narrow, small-volume glass for internal tastings for years.
Conclusion of the blind tasting at Riedel: in the second round, the top qualities of Hennessy XO and Paradies were tasted.
The just defined glass shape for V.S.O.P. showed too little intensity in the aroma test. This can be explained by the fact that mature brandies lose their strictness with age. Riedel was looking for a shape that would concentrate aromas.
The diameter of the glass was increased, the shape was tapered upwards. This ensures that the classically mature, high-quality bouquet notes are presented in perfect intensity without disturbing alcohol influence.
Enjoyed from this glass, the elegant, mature brandies show finesse with body, strong and long-lasting.
