The design for the Bordeaux Grand Cru glass dates back to 1959 and is more relevant than ever today.
Connoisseurs are surprised because the size seems exaggerated. However, modern large red wines made from the grape varieties we recommend for this glass demand size in order to fully develop.
Due to the formal characteristics of the glass and its flow behavior, these wines exhibit velvety density with body, high extract concentration, and sweet, round tannins that are integrated into the fruit. This vessel is not intended to be filled with 860 cc of content. Approximately 100 to 150 ml of wine is recommended.
The remaining volume serves for the unfolding and presentation of the concentrated, rich aromas. In this way, the wine can express all its typical characteristics in its optimal form. On the other hand, if small glasses are used, these drops lose fruitiness, complexity, become one-dimensional, dominated by woody notes, and have a bitter finish.
