»Noble Restraint« is the design philosophy of the Villeroy & Boch »Afina« collection. Designer Christian Haas has created a porcelain form with »Afina« that masterfully combines the apparent opposites of reduction and sophistication. A minimalist tableware that reveals its subtle elegance only in the thoughtful details. At first glance, the porcelain »Afina« appears simple and unspectacular. However, items like plates and bowls have a kind of elevated base, giving the impression that the porcelain is floating lightly and nobly above the tabletop. This distance from the table also enhances the shadow cast by the porcelain pieces, further emphasizing the floating effect.

Less is more, as they say at Villeroy & Boch »Afina«. A delicate relief is the only decorative element of the bright white porcelain. Haas, the designer, was inspired by sun rays. The line relief creates a subtle visual and tactile appeal. The individual placement of each item adds a certain tension: handle mugs and cups present the relief inside, while bowls and deep dishes have the relief on the outside at the bottom. The flat bowls, in turn, carry the ray relief inside at the edge.

Matching the porcelain »Afina« by Villeroy & Boch, a glass series is available that takes up the delicate line structure as a design element. In the fine engraving of the elegant crystal glasses of »Afina Glass«, the light breaks and creates sparkling reflections in the contained drinks as well as on the table and board.

»With the Afina collection, I wanted to create a sensual counterpart to a world that is becoming increasingly digital«, says Haas, who is considered one of the hundred most important creatives and best designers in Europe according to Architectural Digest (AD Magazine 2023). Villeroy & Boch »Afina« takes a deliberate step back on the table and ensures a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere. The porcelain, with its timeless design, is above short-lived fashions, yet it also perfectly matches the trendy style of »Quiet Luxury«. In so-called »quiet luxury«, nothing is disturbingly loud; it expresses itself through skillful understatement. Just like »Afina« by Villeroy & Boch.
