Villeroy & Boch Afina

Villeroy & Boch »Afina«

»Subtle Elegance« – this is the design philosophy behind the Villeroy & Boch »Afina« collection. Designer Christian Haas has created a porcelain series with »Afina« that masterfully combines the seemingly contrasting elements of minimalism and sophistication. This minimalist tableware reveals its subtle elegance only in its well-thought-out details. At first glance, the »Afina« porcelain appears simple and unassuming. However, items such as plates and bowls feature a slightly elevated base, giving the impression that the porcelain is floating gracefully above the tabletop. This slight distance from the table enhances the shadows cast by the porcelain pieces, further emphasizing the floating effect.

Less is more is the guiding principle of Villeroy & Boch »Afina« collection. A delicate relief is the only decorative element adorning the radiant white porcelain. Designer Christian Haas drew inspiration from sunrays for this design. The fine linear relief creates a subtle visual and tactile appeal. A touch of contrast is introduced through its placement, which varies by item: Handles and cups feature the relief on the inside, while bowls and deep dishes have it on the lower exterior. Flat bowls, on the other hand, showcase the sunray relief along the inner rim.

A glass series is available to match the »Afina« porcelain from Villeroy & Boch, which echoes the filigree line structure as a design element. The light refracts in the fine engraving of the elegant crystal glasses from »Afina Glass« creates sparkling reflections in the drinks they contain and on the table.

»With the Afina collection, I wanted to create a sensual counterpart to an increasingly digital world«, says designer Christian Haas, who was named one of Europe's 100 most influential creatives and top designers by Architectural Digest (AD Magazin 2023). Villeroy & Boch »Afina« is designed to take a subtle, understated role on the table, creating a soothing and relaxed atmosphere. Its timeless design transcends fleeting trends while perfectly complementing the popular Quiet Luxury style. In this concept of »quiet luxury« nothing is overtly loud; instead, it is expressed through refined understatement - just like »Afina« by Villeroy & Boch.
