Masterful understatement in porcelain - that is Villeroy & Boch »Afina«. The reduced yet sophisticated form creates the right balance of minimalism and elegance. Renowned designer Christian Haas developed »Afina« together with Villeroy & Boch. The result is a collection that appears unspectacular and unobtrusive at first glance, revealing its thoughtful, detail-loving design gradually. The plates of Villeroy & Boch »Afina« present themselves in a contemporary rimless coupe shape: Their lines end in a minimal, curved edge. This design feature creates a large presentation area for the effective staging of dishes. Additionally, the service items stand on a slightly elevated foot, making the porcelain appear to float weightlessly on the table. This effect is enhanced by the striking shadow cast by the distance between the table and the porcelain.
Less is more. The only decoration of the bright white porcelain Villeroy & Boch »Afina« consists of a delicate relief. The sunbeam-inspired line relief provides a visual accent and a pleasant feel. Unusually, the placement varies: In the handle mug and espresso and coffee cup, the relief is placed inside. In deep bowls and dishes, it adorns the outside of the lower area. And in flat bowls, it sits inside at the edge.
»With the Afina collection, I wanted to create a counterpart to a world that is becoming increasingly digital,« says Haas, who is considered one of the hundred most important creatives and best designers in Europe according to Architectural Digest (AD Magazine 2023). Villeroy & Boch »Afina« takes a deliberate step back on the table, creating a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere. The porcelain, with its timeless design, rises above short-lived fashions, yet perfectly fits the trendy style of »Quiet Luxury«. In so-called »quiet luxury«, nothing is disturbingly loud; it expresses itself through noble restraint. Just like »Afina« by Villeroy & Boch.
