Villeroy & Boch »Afina«
Sophisticated understatement in porcelain - that's Villeroy & Boch's »Afina«. The refined yet subtle form creates the perfect balance of minimalism and elegance. Renowned designer Christian Haas developed »Afina« in collaboration with Villeroy & Boch. The result is a collection that appears unremarkable and unassuming at first glance, revealing its thoughtful, detail-oriented design gradually over time. The plates of Villeroy & Boch's »Afina« present themselves in a contemporary rimless coupe shape: Their lines flow into a minimal curved edge. This design feature provides a large presentation surface for the effective staging of dishes. Furthermore, the serving pieces are placed on a slightly elevated pedestal, allowing the porcelain to appear weightlessly suspended on the table. This effect is enhanced by the striking shadow cast by the distance between the table and the porcelain.
Less is more. The only decoration of the gleaming white porcelain Villeroy & Boch »Afina« consists of delicate relief work. The line relief, inspired by sun rays, provides an optical accent and at the same time a pleasant tactile sensation. What is particularly remarkable here is the varied placement: In the case of the handled cup as well as the espresso and coffee cup, the relief is located on the inside. For deep bowls and dishes, it adorns the outside of their lower section. And for the flat dishes, it sits inside the rim.
»With the Afina collection, I wanted to create a counterpart to a world that is becoming increasingly digital« says Haas, who, according to Architectural Digest (AD Magazine 2023), is among the hundred most important creatives and best designers in Europe. Villeroy & Boch »Afina« intentionally takes a step back on the table, creating a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere. The porcelain transcends short-lived trends with its timeless design, yet it also fits perfectly with the current trend of "Quiet Luxury." In the realm of so-called "quiet luxury," nothing is ostentatiously loud; it expresses itself through refined restraint, just like »Afina« from Villeroy & Boch.
