Rosenthal »Sonetto« Porcelain & Stoneware
The name »Sonetto« refers to an old form of poetry dating back to 13th century Italy. The Italian term is »Sonetto«, and from this translation, the extraordinary Rosenthal table collection received its name: Rosenthal »Sonetto«. Just as the individual stanzas in a melodic poem work together, this collection combines porcelain, stoneware, and glass to create an impressive harmonious overall picture.
Fine porcelain is combined at Rosenthal »Sonetto« with coarse stoneware and delicate glass. Different shapes create a varied arrangement in interplay. Design details surprise the viewer and leave them in awe. The mirror effect on the flat plates recalls trompe-l'œil technique: The inner surface of the plate at Rosenthal »Sonetto« appears like a slightly raised pedestal due to the additional contour, effectively showcasing the dishes served on it. The flower-shaped silhouette is repeated in the design of the cups and bowls and is also found in the cup handles.
»Sonetto Bianco« is presented in pure, radiant white. This is complemented by the decorative version »Sonetto Oro« with delicate golden lines. »Sonetto Seta« impresses with the noble biscuit look of the matte plate rims. The robust items »Sonetto Stoneware« made of stoneware create exciting contrasts to the porcelain series: These include bowls and jugs, bowls with and without lids, and a footed bowl. Their handmade look, rough material, and original shapes seem to clash with the elegant porcelain, but therein lies the charm of this collection.
The ensemble is complemented by the »Sonetto Glass« collection, which brings additional lightness and transparency to the table setting with fine glass shapes and stylishly rounds off the design aspirations of the series.
The Rosenthal designers have skillfully combined very different components into a harmonious whole with »Sonetto«. At the German Design Award 2025, Rosenthal »Sonetto« was already awarded as the winner in the category »Excellent Product Design | Tabletop«.
