Rosenthal »Sonetto«
Rosenthal pays homage to the oldest form of Italian poetry with the collection »Sonetto«: the sonnet. Just as the different stanzas in this melodic poem, various materials and forms come together in Rosenthal »Sonetto« to create a harmonious whole. This extraordinary series combines fine porcelain with robust stoneware and transparent glass, blending playful floral elements with asymmetrical, organic shapes. But that's not all; Rosenthal also surprises the viewer with optical effects reminiscent of trompe-l'œil technique: on the flat plates, the mirror – the inside of the plate – appears like a slightly raised pedestal due to the contrasting contour line, on which the presented dishes are artistically staged. This flower-shaped silhouette is also reflected in the design of the cups and bowls. Even in small details, such as the cup handles, the profile of a flower is repeated.
»Sonetto Bianco« presents itself in pure white. A fine golden line adds shiny accents to »Sonetto Oro«. And in »Sonetto Seta«, the plate rim in a matte biscuit look provides an additional eye-catching effect. True contrasts are set by the »Sonetto Stoneware« items made of stoneware: bowls, with and without lids, a footed bowl, bowls, and pitchers. Their rough handmade character and robust shapes visually and tangibly differ from fine porcelain. In combination, the two different materials create a truly extravagant and unique collection.
The »Sonetto Glass« series complements the collection with fine drinking glasses made of transparent glass. They harmoniously blend into the overall picture, bringing lightness to the table and emphasizing the characteristic material mix – a modern interpretation of stylish table culture. Awarded the German Design Award 2025, Rosenthal »Sonetto« represents a successful bridge between tradition, design, and everyday life – a truly poetic experience for all senses.
