Woks and Wok Accessories

The Wok - Cooking Asian Style

The wok originates from Asian cuisine. Unlike a conventional pan, it has, depending on the model, the rounded shape of a horizontally divided sphere. In its countries of origin, the wok also has a convex bottom and is heated on special cooking stations.

However, the woks for Western kitchens are adapted with their bottom shape to the stoves commonly used here. The special shape of a wok causes the heat to be centered in the middle area. This makes it ideal for vitamin-preserving stir-frying.

But woks are suitable for all cooking methods, such as blanching, steaming, braising, frying, boiling, roasting, or stewing. Conveniently, woks usually have two handles. They come in various materials and with accessories like lids, grill inserts, and turners.
