Pestle

Pestles and Bar Pestles

With a pestle, food is crushed or ground until it reaches the desired consistency. The suitable vessel for this is the mortar with its rounded bowl shape and material hardness. The use of mortar and pestle or their equivalents is part of human history. As early as 30,000 years ago, in the Stone Age, flour was made from plant roots using them. And even in the modern kitchen, mortar and pestle are indispensable helpers.

They are ideal for preparing aromatic spices or making fresh pestos of all kinds. Seeds like sesame and flaxseed can be crushed as needed in a mortar vessel, and berries and herbs can be finely ground.

For preparing delicious cocktails with special ingredients, pestles can be used as bar pestles.
