KPM »Kurland Noir«
The iconic Kurland collection has stood for craftsmanship excellence and outstanding design culture since 1790. With Kurland Noir, the time-honored classic receives a fascinating reinterpretation: deep black and a noble, velvety-matte appearance give the characteristic relief of egg-and-drape ornament a modern expressiveness and special elegance.
The glaze, specially developed in the laboratory of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin, combines the proven transparent glaze with high-quality black color pigments. This preserves the porcelain’s high resistance while creating an extraordinary look. Each piece is sprayed by hand, with foot and underside deliberately left white. In the subsequent high firing at 1,250 °C, glaze and pigments fuse into a deep, velvety-matte surface with impressive effect — scratch-resistant and dishwasher-safe.
Kurland Noir was created on the occasion of Jörg Woltmann’s 20th anniversary as owner of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin. Even the manufactory’s traditional signet — the royal scepter and orb — appears in black and discreetly points to the origin of each piece.
Kurland Noir combines neoclassical forms with contemporary material aesthetics and impressively embodies the dialogue between tradition and innovation. A collection that gives the laid table a striking, modern elegance and makes the design expertise of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin visible in a special way.
