Small Material Science – Villeroy & Boch Brand Glasses

A beautiful glass. But what properties must a glass have to be considered "beautiful"? Of course, personal taste plays a significant role here, but there are generally valid criteria that lead us to perceive a glass as beautiful: these are design and quality.

The shape, or design of a glass, is crucial for whether it fits the corresponding drink. For example: a wine glass typically has a (long) stem, which is used to hold it. This prevents - especially with white wine, which is served chilled - the contents from reaching the wrong temperature due to hand warmth. The bowl sits on the stem: different bowl sizes and shapes support the characteristic bouquet of the wine.

The properties and quality of a glass depend on the materials used and the method of production. Drinking glasses are primarily made of quartz sand, soda, lime, and oxides. Villeroy & Boch relies on high-quality raw materials. Careful processing and professional finishing create glasses that impress with their clarity, sound, and hardness.

Crystal Glasses
Crystal glasses from Villeroy & Boch have a higher potassium content compared to conventional glass. This potassium oxide gives the glass a wonderful brilliance. Many glass collections from Villeroy & Boch appear very delicate and filigree. Nevertheless, these glasses are robust and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. However, to maintain the brilliant shine for as long as possible, gentle cleaning of the glasses is recommended.
