Rosenthal studio-line »Phi«

City, Spindrift, Freeze, Manhattan, Snow – British designer Cairn Young has created the vase collection Phi for Rosenthal: Phi consists of five vases with extraordinary geometric surface structures. The different patterns cover the white vase body in relief. Viewing these sculptural objects reminds one of optical illusions with a 3D effect. Triangles become ice crystals, cubic blocks form a skyline. Depending on the angle and light, the images change, creating an apparent movement.

»When I was little, my father gave me a flipbook. Since then, I've been fascinated by the idea of bringing movement to rigid objects«, says Cairn Young about the Phi series. Young, born in 1963, is considered an outstanding representative of the new London design scene. In 1991, he founded the studio Platt & Young, London, together with Robin Platt.
