Cappuccino Cups

Cappuccino Cups

Hardly any other Italian coffee drink is as popular here as the Cappuccino. This coffee specialty is traditionally prepared from espresso and hot, semi-liquid milk foam. In Germany, cappuccino is enjoyed from morning to evening, while traditional Italians usually indulge in this rich coffee variant only for breakfast or perhaps in the morning. However, all connoisseurs agree that cappuccino should be drunk from special Cappuccino Cups. These often have a larger capacity than regular coffee cups and are usually bulbous and thick-walled. The typical cup shape is not only visually appealing, it also influences the taste - find more about this at the end of this page.

The thick walls ensure that the cappuccino stays hot longer in the cup. Moreover, this characteristic cup shape is part of the cappuccino enjoyment for many lovers – it provides the authentic drinking experience, almost like being on vacation in Italy... The material, however, is a matter of personal taste. Whether made of white porcelain or colorful stoneware, glass or ceramic – everyone can choose their favorite cup(s) here. At Porzellantreff, you will find a wide selection of functional and attractive cappuccino cups from our brand manufacturers like Villeroy & Boch, Seltmann Weiden, Thomas, and many more.

Cappuccino typically consists of an espresso and creamy, semi-liquid milk foam. The goal in preparing cappuccino is not to completely mix the two ingredients, espresso and milk, but only to "swirl" them. To achieve this, a cappuccino is stylishly served in a special cappuccino cup. This usually has a larger volume than a regular coffee cup, and the optimal shape is round and bulbous. The shape actually affects the taste. First, the espresso is poured into the cup, which is then carefully filled with the hot milk/milk foam mixture. The crema of the espresso - its fine brown foam crown - settles on the frothed milk and gives the cappuccino its typical appearance. Under the milk foam, espresso and milk meet. The bulbous shape of the cup achieves the largest possible surface area where the two ingredients "layer over each other". And this, in turn, ensures the fine, characteristic cappuccino taste when drinking.

When pouring the creamy frothed milk, experts manage to create patterns or designs in the brown milk foam. Professionals in this "discipline" are the baristas, who in Italian bars are responsible for preparing coffee specialties. A real cappuccino is neither served with cream nor sprinkled with cocoa powder. We at Porzellantreff, however, believe that everyone should enjoy their personal favorite creation, exactly as they wish.

Cappuccino cups are usually offered in two pieces or in a set and consist of a top cup and a saucer. This looks stylish, and the saucer serves to protect the table or tablecloth from unsightly coffee rings. The spoon is also placed on the saucer, and often a small sweet treat is served on it. The custom of placing sugar cubes here as well, we find unnecessary. For many of our cappuccino cups, there are matching sugar bowls - you can find them here, or through the search function with the series name or collection designation.
