For its 150th anniversary, the Flensburg Silver Manufacture reintroduces a classic cutlery piece from its corporate history: Robbe & Berking's »Metropolitan«. This cutlery embodies the so-called Mid Century Style with its characteristic lines. This term refers to a design style that characterized the period between the 1930s and 1960s in the USA and Europe. Typical of the Mid-Century style is a reduced yet sensual design language with flowing, organic lines. Robbe & Berking's »Metropolitan« cutlery follows these iconic design principles and becomes a clear statement:»Metropolitan« - The Modern Classic. A special feature is the so-called menu size of the basic pieces. Cutlery items such as knives, forks, and spoons in menu size are smaller and therefore more handy than formal tableware. A menu set is thus also very suitable for daily use.
The inner qualities of the cutlery pieces complement the tasteful exterior perfectly: The table knife from Robbe & Berking's »Metropolitan« possesses a well-balanced handle. Its center of gravity has been shifted towards the back to ensure that the blade does not touch the tablecloth when lying down. The blade, made of high-quality blade steel, is carefully inserted into the hollow handle with skilled craftsmanship. Also crafted with much attention to detail is the table fork: Here, the inner sides of the tines are hand-polished to a high gloss. This gives the fork a flawless mouthfeel and a perfect appearance. The same applies to the table spoon: Its bowl is processed in the silversmith with special care to guarantee a sensorially pleasant feeling in the mouth. Furthermore, the spoon is well balanced in the hand. It is indeed these details that characterize the perfection of Robbe & Berking.
