AYAM MAGNUM 2017 in black - limited edition
A tribute to the year of the cock. In 2016 Maximilian J. Riedel presented the Ayam decanter,an impressive fusion of form and function. The elegant and impressive appearance of the Ayam cock served as inspiration for this innovative and at the same time functional design. The decanter has a double decanting function that allows young wines to open and show their full potential as if they had aged slowly.
Today, one year after its launch, this decanter has attracted great attention worldwide. In 2016 he was awarded the Good Design Award.
„2017 is the year of the cock in the Chinese horoscope. That was the reason for me to make this extraordinary design a little more extraordinary. In 2017 the decanter Ayam will be available in an optically blown Magnum version, strictly limited to 500 pieces each,Maximilian J. Riedel,11th generation and managing director of Riedel Glas, explains his motivations for this edition.
It requires the highest level of craftsmanship from the glassblower Martin Hofmeister to produce a decanter of this size and with this functional complexity optically blown. The spirally arranged ribs pressed into the glass are formed directly in the still liquid glass using a special technique. There are only a few glassblowers left who have mastered this ancient art. It is not surprising that Maximilian Riedel saw and learned this special technique in the cradle of the highest glassblowing art,in Venice, when he studied the craft of glassblowing in a glassblowing factory on Murano.
The decanter Ayam Magnum is mouth-blown and handmade from crystal glass in Kufstein,Austria. Each individual piece is delivered with a signed certificate of the glass blower carrying it out. Each decanter is therefore an individual piece. One of a kind. Unique and perfect. So its packaging is also something special. Thanks to a special technology, the decanter seems to float in the box.
Ayam is a decanter with double decanting function – this means that the wine is aerated both during pouring in and pouring out. This considerably reduces the decanting time. The intensive oxygen supply can be recognized by the sonorous gargling, which occurs when the wine is swirled through as it flows in and out.
