The search for the perfect Sauvignon-Blanc glass led Riedel onto an Odyssey around the globe. It needed the participation of hundreds of wine tasters and was the most sophisticated search for the perfect shape of a goblet.
In December 1997 the winery Carmel had a Sauvignon-Blanc workshop which should demonstrate the affects of the wine glass to the wine.
It showed that the existing Riedel Sauvignon-Blanc wine glass of the Vinum series could show the variety of the grape accordingly but it was not better then the white-wine glass of the series Ouverture. The results made Riedel have tastings in Australia and New Zeeland and the results were about the same. Each time tree equal goblet-designs won the tastings.
Therefore Riedel developed prototypes which unite the designs of the winning trio. To the maximum of convenience the newly developed designs proved their quality on workshops in Bordeaux and Austria and had a significantly better result then the previously named trio.
The new glass of Riedel is suitable for all Sauvignon-Blanc wines. From the fresh Loire-wines with their high content of minerals until the Barrique matured wines from Bordeaux. The high, tight glass stresses the typical intensive smell. The taste is characterized by the balance of fruit and acid with a fine, mineral finish.
