The old Brandy-glass is dead! Yann Fillioux, the head-taster of Hennessy developed a Cognac-glass together with Georg Riedel in 1988. The blind-tasting showed that the numerous glass-designs of common Brandy-glasses couldn't manage it. It became obvious that the popular balloon-shaped glasses have a too wide evaporation surface and that they underline the sharpness of the alcohol.
"That's not a surprise for me", says Yann Filloux, "For our intern tastings at Hennessy we usually use tight, small-volumed glasses."
as a result of the blind-tasting at Riedel's. The second turn was to taste the premium qualities Hennessy XO and Paradies.
The just defined glass-design for the V.S.O.P. showed a lack of intensity with the smelling-taste. An explanation is that ripe Cognacs loose strength when getting older. Riedel was searching for a design that concentrates the aromas.
The diameter of the glass was made bigger and the shape was tightened on top. It guarantees that the classically ripe, valuable bouquets present themselves in a perfect intensity without disturbing influences by the alcohol.
Enjoyed from this glass the elegant, riped Cognacs show finesse with body - powerful and long-lasting.
